On Thursday, October 13, I shot a concert that was kind of a milestone for me. I was asked by Sound Check Entertainment in Ottawa to shoot Meghan Patrick, Jon Pardi and Kip Moore here in Kingston. A lot of the concerts I've done up to now have been for me, just because I like to do it, but this time I was shooting for someone else and the pictures were to go out to the world.....and they did just that. I hope I can do more work for Sound Check in the future. The image below is not one that was submitted to Sound Check, but one that I love. It captured a great moment. I wasn't able to find out this guy's name but he was a true showman.

I'm not a summer person at all. I don't care for the hot, sticky weather where people spend a lot of their time trying to cool off, or maybe hide from the heat in some air conditioned space. That, to me isn't any fun. I love spring and fall because at those times of year, it just seems so much more pleasant. In the fall, we have nice temperatures, abundant colour and the fall harvest at the market to boot. Happy Thanksgiving.

This summer for the month of August, I had photographs in a group art show hosted by Taylor Studios in Kingston. The show was called "Exposure" and featured the work of six artists altogether. This was my first time public showing for me and was a tiny bit out of my comfort zone, but it was still a quite positive experience for me. I will look forward to doing it again in the future. The photograph below is a classic Kingston scene that anyone from town will recognize. To all who stopped by the show to take a look, I thank you.

During the time we've had the house in the Maritimes, we've experienced two minor hurricanes. By Minor, I mean that there was little or no damage, which is a good thing. The most recent one was on July 1, 2014, Arthur. In our neighbourhood, Arthur amounted to a good wind, with the direct hit happening on the Fundy side and into New Brunswick. We have a beach near us called Tor Bay and it's on open ocean so we wandered over there to see what was happening. In this photograph, the first big rock is usually out of the water and you can stand on top of it. The storm surge brought much higher than normal tides and also some interesting waves. I couldn't believe how hard it was to even stand up in the wind.
How Far is it From Here?
For those that have been to Nova Scotia, you can agree that no two things here are close together, it seems. It looks like a little tiny place on the map and in relation to Ontario, it is, but, it is also just big enough to make it difficult to get around. There are places where you can't get to other nearby places without returning to where you came from and changing roads.....seriously! That often turns what one would think would be a short drive, into an hour or more.
I came to Nova Scotia nearly a week ago now for some recharging. Times have been stressful for me of late and I looked forward to some serious photography time, but have not gotten to it very much. A big part of it is because of this driving thing. I've already got about 15 or 16 hours invested in getting to the province in the first place so I have to say, spending a large portion of my time in the car getting to, or returning from shooting doesn't sound like a lot of fun right now. Driving isn't my relaxed place.
Today, for example, I was going to get up ridiculously early to make it to a place two and a half hours away to shoot a bridge while it was lit. I either had to go extremely early, or leave it till evening. I scheduled and rescheduled, but finally decided to forego the trip altogether......5 hours of driving to essentially get one picture? Not right now, maybe another time.
For these reasons, I've spent more time actually relaxing. I've watched the last season of Weeds, half of the last season of Orange Is The New Black and a couple of movies on Netflix. It has been a great rest, but the trek back to Ontario begins tomorrow.
