Leading lines are an often used part of composition, they help to lead the viewer into the frame. I use them wherever possible. It's amazing how much they show up.
Photo of the Week #15
I had spent some time in Seattle trying to get photographs of Mt. Ranier, an active volcano visible from the city, but the weather didn't cooperate with me. As we were lifting off from the airport, I could see the mountain was mostly hidden by clouds as it is a lot of the time. The pilot gave his routine talk asking us to turn off and stow our electronics. I had my camera bag on the floor under the seat ahead of me, as I always do My Camera bag is my carry on, I would never check it.. As we climbed above the clouds, I was amazed to see the summit of Mt Ranier popping out also. Just as I noticed this, the pilot came on and informed us that we were now allowed to use laptops, etc, so, I dove down and got my camera out just in time to shoot this image of the summit of Mt Ranier above the clouds. I didn't get what I really wanted, but this was still a bonus.
Photo of the Week #14
We managed to get out shooting a bit this afternoon, not nearly enough of that happening these days. Sometimes it seems that life just gets in the way too much, but today our club had a bit of an outing on Amherst Island. We decided to take the drive over, but waited till the afternoon. With the sun going down so early at this time of year, we decided that the late afternoon sun would provide better light and the temperature would be more bearable. As it turned out, the temperature only got up to about -12 Celsius and had a windchill to it as well. With bare fingers it felt pretty chilly, but I got a couple of interesting images just the same, so it was worthwhile.

This is University of Toronto campus as seen from College Street in Toronto. This photograph was used in some tourism literature for Toronto a few years ago. I love walking around the streets of Toronto shooting, wish I had more time to do it. There is so much happening on the streets there.
Photo of the Week #12
This photograph was made on the Dupont property near the filtration plant. Photographers sometimes wander into places they shouldn't really be. This was one of those times, it's posted as private property and everyone knows it, but many people take their dogs there for some exercise and seem to have no trouble so I went in. Just a couple of minutes after walking past the plant and to the shore, a security guard showed up and informed my I could not stay there. I did what anyone would do in this situation, I played dumb........seems to work most times, and this was no exception. This is called "Restricted Sunrise".
